Where to drink Sidekick in Queenstown

Cherry Sidekick Soda in the snow with the Southern Alps behind

Sidekick is from Wānaka. Queenstown is the next valley over. If you are flying in, soaking at Arthurs Point, at the Saturday market, or on the lakefront on a Sunday, these are four places that stock it.

This is not a “best of Queenstown” list. It is four named stockists. Fridges move. Ask staff if you cannot see a can.

Airspresso at Queenstown Airport

Airspresso (people often type Airpresso) is the café and bar in Queenstown Airport’s domestic departures lounge — Sir Henry Wigley Drive, Frankton. Coffee, cabinet food, a licensed bar, runway and mountain in the window.

Clear security, then look for Sidekick with the drinks. There is also a grab-and-go Fuel to Fly counter in international departures. Open seven days, from early until the last domestic departure boards.

The can before the flight. Same drink as town.

Onsen Hot Pools

Onsen Hot Pools sits above the Shotover at 160 Arthurs Point Road — cedar pools, alpine view, day spa. About ten minutes from town; they run a shuttle if you book it.

Look for Sidekick with the drinks around the soak. After the pool, a honey-sweetened soda is the cold thing that is not another glass of water. Cherry and Pear sit well here. Ask if you cannot see a can.

Remarkables Market

Remarkables Market is the Saturday market at the Red Barn, corner of Hawthorne Drive and Red Oaks Drive in Remarkables Park. Produce, food stalls, crafts, live music, playground. October to April it runs Saturdays 9am–2pm; winter is a shorter set of Saturday dates — check their site before you go.

Look for Sidekick with the food and drink stalls. Bring a keep cup; they are a no-single-use-cup market. This is a Saturday stop, not a Sunday one.

Sundays, and The Bathhouse

Sunday in Queenstown is still a Sidekick day. Airspresso and Onsen run seven days. The lakefront option is the restaurant.

The Bathhouse is the 1911 Coronation Bathhouse on the beach at 28 Marine Parade — tapas, a deck on Queenstown Bay, lake and mountains in the glass. Open Monday to Sunday.

Look for Sidekick with the meal or in the fridge. It is a restaurant serve, not the airport café. (There is a spa in town with a similar name. This one is the lakefront restaurant.)

Frankton, and more named fridges

If you are staying near the airport rather than the lakefront:

  • SUNDAYS in Country Lane, 26 Hansen Road — wood-fired, Frankton.
  • Bakers Lane at Queenstown Central, 19 Grant Road.

The Find Us map has the rest. Fridges move. Ask staff.

The rest of the map

Queenstown is the airport, the pools, the Saturday market, and the lake. Home is still Wānaka.

Questions

Can I buy Sidekick at Queenstown Airport?

Yes. Airspresso stocks Sidekick in Queenstown Airport domestic departures. Sidekick is from Wānaka, the next valley over — not from Queenstown.

Where can I drink Sidekick in Queenstown town?

Onsen Hot Pools at Arthurs Point, Remarkables Market on Saturdays (October to April, plus winter Saturday dates), and The Bathhouse on the lakefront. Airspresso and Onsen run seven days.

Is Sidekick from Queenstown?

No. Sidekick is a honey-sweetened soda from Wānaka. Queenstown is where visitors fly in and find it at the airport, the pools, the Saturday market, and the lake.

Can I take a can up Ben Lomond?

Soda is not hydration. Carry water on Ben Lomond. Leave the can for town or an easy walk such as Queenstown Hill, and pack the empty out.
