Lunch-time drinks at Grow Wānaka

Sidekick Soda on the Rimutaka Incline, New Zealand backcountry

Grow Wānaka is the community garden on Outlet Road: composting hub, education space, and a place people actually turn up to work. Sidekick is from this town. We supply the lunch-time drinks.

That is the partnership. Cans on the table after the mahi — honey-sweetened soda, real fruit, no cane sugar. Not a naming-rights deal. Not a ranking of Wānaka charities.

What Grow Wānaka is

Locals started it in 2020 on land at 197 Outlet Road. Food scraps from town become compost. Compost grows produce. Surplus goes to the Wānaka Food Bank and Upper Clutha produce pantries. Saturday working bees, workshops, and school visits sit on top of that.

It is a charitable trust (CC58192). It runs on donated time, materials, and funding. We are one of the businesses that shows up with product.

What we put on the table

Lunch-time refreshments. After a working bee or a workshop, people need a drink that is not another coffee and not a cane-sugar soda from the dairy. That is the job of the can.

Cherry, Mango, Pear, and Strawberry — the four we make. Same drink you will find in town at Corner Peak, Edgewater, Muttonbird, and Little Street Kitchen.

If you want to help them

Go to the garden. Grow Wānaka lists Saturday Bee & Tea working bees, workshops, and how to donate. Households can drop food scraps at the organics hub.

Sidekick’s other partnerships sit on Our Impact. This one is hometown, and it is the drinks at lunch.
